Translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the anterior knee pain scale (AKPS) into Argentine Spanish for subjects with patellofemoral pain syndrome

Authors

Abstract

Objective: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the anterior knee pain scale (AKPS) into Argentine Spanish for subjects with patellofemoral pain syndrome.
Materials and methods: The translation of the original scale from English was conducted following the appropriate guidelines. Thirty-five Argentine Spanish-speaking subjects, aged 13 to 45 and diagnosed with patellofemoral pain, were evaluated using the translated scale. The subjects attended four rehabilitation centres in three provinces of Argentina.
Results: The original version was translated from English into Argentine Spanish. A pilot test was conducted on 35 subjects, and no difficulties were reported. The average administration time was 4 minutes and 10 seconds.
Conclusion: Through this translation and testing process, the AKPS was cross-culturally adapted into Argentine Spanish for subjects with patellofemoral pain, which will allow for the assessment of its psychometric properties in the future. This study provides a valuable tool for the daily practice of therapists involved in the rehabilitation of subjects with patellofemoral pain in Argentina.
