Clinical and demographic characteristics of subjects with multiple sclerosis in a rehabilitation center in the City of Buenos Aires
An observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study
Abstract
Objective: To describe the clinical and demographic characteristics of subjects with multiple sclerosis (MS) who attend a rehabilitation center in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
Materials y methods: An observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted. Subjects aged over 18 years and diagnosed with MS were included. The sociodemographic variables were sex, age at diagnosis, age at admission, and possession of the Unique Disability Certificate. The clinical and demographic variables included the duration of the disease and admission to the services, as well as clinical variables considered to have the greatest impact on rehabilitation.
Results: Out of a total of 39 subjects, 21 (53.8 %) were male. The mean age was 45.5 years (SD 9.9). The median duration of the disease was 9 years (min.-max. 4-17). Additionally, 67.6 % of the subjects were able to walk, and most required some form of assistance device for this activity.
Conclusion: Some of the clinical and sociodemographic characteristics of subjects with MS who attended a rehabilitation center in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires were described.
