Concordance between the Clinometer® application and the goniometer for the measurement of ankle dorsiflexion in healthy subjects
Abstract
Objective: To determine the level of concordance between the Clinometer® and the universal goniometer (UG) for the measurement of ankle dorsiflexion without weight-bearing in healthy subjects.
Materials and method: A descriptive, cross-sectional, double-blind study was conducted. A convenience sampling method was performed. The study included subjects aged >18 years, both male and female, who attended the physiotherapy unit of Hospital Zonal General de Agudos Mariano y Luciano de la Vega.
Results: A total of 87 subjects were included; of them, 60 (69.5%) were female, with a mean age of 39 years (SD 10). The intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.93 (95% CI, 0.86 to 0.95), which was adequate according to COSMIN guidelines. High and significant correlation between both methods was observed (p <0.05).
Conclusion: This study analyzed the concordance between the Clinometer® and the UG for the measurement of ankle dorsiflexion without weight-bearing in healthy subjects. The application is a simple and economical alternative to measure range of motion, which allows to objectively describe the clinical course of patients.
